I’ve recently designed a new garden which stands out from my usual garden designs… Contemporary, low maintenance and chic gardens are very popular at the moment, however, this client wanted something a bit different and a garden that really reflects them and their environmental principles.
This Sheffield garden will re-use, upcycle and recycle whenever possible. The central feature will be a Mondrian inspired pergola ‘wall’; this will comprise various sections of recycled, interesting and textural materials. Glass blocks, stained glass and perforated concrete blocks will filter the light and cast colourful and interesting shadows over the recycled decking and into the house.
The patio will be a random mosaic of broken tiles and slabs, which would have otherwise been thrown away. The planting will be in raised beds and comprise ample space for fruit and vegetables. The clients specifically requested artificial grass, so for an interesting twist (and to save money) the ‘lawn’ will be a beautiful patchwork of off-cuts. These will vary in tone, texture and length and add more interest.
Really looking forward to seeing this garden realised.
